Dr B. Venkatesh Kumar
Chair, Centre for Academic Leadership and Education Management
Dr. Kumar works in multiple capacities to guide reforms in the field of higher education in India. He is chiefly involved in advising and providing support to the Ministry of Human Resource Development’s major policy initiative, Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), a countrywide reform initiative aimed to revive and resurrect state public university system. He is a member of the Project Approval Board, National Mission on Higher Education appointed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Kumar is also a member of the Sectoral Committee on Education appointed by the Kerala State Planning Board for the 12th Plan period. He served as a World Bank consultant by the Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Bihar to a committee to review the Public Universities Act in Bihar. He has recently completed the task of developing a strategic framework for leadership development program for Higher Education Administrators. This will form the basis of the national Higher Education Leadership Academy. He is the Chair of the Higher Education Leadership Academy and the Centre for Academic Leadership and Education Management, both federally funded initiatives to strengthen research, policy advocacy, and professional development for Higher and School Education in India.
Dr Kumar has authored 2 books entitled The Electoral Reforms in India: Current Discourses and Madhya Pradesh: Development Challenges over a number of papers in journals of national and international repute and close to 17 years of teaching and research experience. His research interests are political process and institutions in India, party and party systems in India, Governance and Public Policy making, more specifically related to Higher Education reforms in India.
